ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION
The Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation is a national community benefit organization based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Our mission is to “raise awareness and support programs that give ‘ordinary’ people the power to save a life.” We work to raise awareness about prevention and treatment of sudden cardiac arrest, including post-resuscitation care.
Sudden Cardic Arrest is a leading cause of death among adults over the age of 40 in the United States and other countries.
SCA is a life-threatening condition–but it can be treated successfully through early intervention with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), defibrillation, advanced cardiac life support, and mild therapeutic hypothermia. When bystanders intervene by giving CPR and using automated external defibrillators (AEDs) before EMS arrives, four out of 10 victims survive.
