This is accomplished by providing continuing education through correspondence courses, workshops, and the website for fitness professionals who are committed to safe and effective programs for youth, older adults and special populations. All major personal training, sports nutrition, group fitness certification organizations, and BOC for athletic training approve AAHF home study courses. With a single home study course at no additional cost, certified personal trainers, group fitness instructors, health and wellness coaches, sports nutrition specialists and athletic trainers holding more than one certification may obtain CECs/CEUS for all certifications for which they need continuing education.

Founder and Managing Partner

Tammy Petersen is the Founder and Managing Partner for the American Academy of Health and Fitness (AAHF). She has written two books on older adult fitness and designed corresponding training programs. Her first book, Functionally Fit, teaches certified nurse aides to provide daily functional strength training as an accepted and expected part of the daily care plan for the chronic long-term care and assisted living patient. Her second book, SrFit, is the basis for an advanced training home study course that approved for up to 22 contact hours of continuing education credits with the major personal trainer certification organizations and 24 hours with the Board of Certification for athletic trainers.

As Managing Partner with the American Academy of Health and Fitness (AAHF), Tammy helps to ensure the success of this organization whose mission is to instill quality of life throughout the gamut of aging. The organizational goals are: (1) through correspondence courses, workshops and the website; provide continuing education for certified personal trainers and athletic trainers who are committed to safe and effective programs for youth, older adults and special populations; and, (2) provide easily accessible, relevant on-line training for certified nurse assistants/aides that focuses on increasing the functionality of nursing home and assisted living residents.

Additionally, with her business partner, Pete Bazzel, she has developed twelve educational programs: SrFit Mature Fitness Specialty Certification™, JrFit Youth Fitness Specialty Certification™, Cancer and the Older Adult™, Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription for All Ages™, Exercise Management of Chronic Diseases and Disabilities for All Ages™, Nutrition for Special Dietary Needs™, Developing Agility and Quickness for Sport Performance™, Strength Training Older Adults™, The Janda System of Evaluation and Treatment of Muscle Imbalance™, Back Stability: Integrating Science and Therapy™, Exercise and Cancer Survivorship™, and Functionally Fit™.

Tammy’s educational background includes Bachelor of Science degrees in marketing and economics from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas. She holds a Master of Science in Education in the area of health and fitness, with an emphasis in geriatrics, from the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas. Also, she is an author for Personal Training on the Net. And, her articles have appeared in IHRSA’s Club Business for Entrepreneurs, Personal Fitness Professional, Club Industry’s Fitness Business Pro, AFAA’s American Fitness and OnSite Fitness.

Pete Bazzel served 24 years in the Army, retiring as a Colonel, and 11 years in the fitness industry as an executive for Town Sports International; prior to assuming his current position as a Partner with the American Academy of Health and Fitness. His educational background includes an undergraduate degree from the United States Military Academy, a Master in Industrial Relations from Purdue University and graduation from the National War College (a 10-month executive development program equivalent to a Master of Arts in International Affairs). His professional achievements include certifications as an American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer and a World Tae Kwon Do Federation Black Belt. His military decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, two Meritorious Service Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, Army Achievement Medal and two Joint Meritorious Unit Citations. He was selected as an Outstanding Young Man of America by U.S. Jaycees in recognition of outstanding professional achievement, superior leadership ability and exceptional service to the community. Outside personal interests include exercise, reading and automobiles. And, of most importance to him are his three daughters, three granddaughters and three grandsons.
